Searching for IUBMB Publications Committee members

The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) seeks three members to join the Publications Committee. The IUBMB publishes four journals with Wiley: IUBMB Life, BioFactors, Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry (BAB)and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education (BAMBEd); and two titles with Elsevier: Molecular Aspects of Medicine and Aspects of Molecular Medicine.

Publications play a critical role in serving the IUBMB community, by providing an ethical venue for our global community to communicate their findings, by providing a resource to support knowledge acquisition and innovation in the scientific community, and by generating revenue that enables IUBMB to support education, training and conferences for the broader biochemistry and molecular biology community.

The Publications Committee plays a crucial role in working with Editors-in-Chief and our publishers to develop journal policies, oversee research integrity, appoint Editors-in-Chief, navigate new innovations and opportunities in publishing (e.g. the role of AI; emerging Open Access models), and to minimize access and authorship obstacles to ensure our journals continue to best serve the IUBMB global community.

We seek new committee members who have formerly served in editorial and/or extensive peer reviewer roles, especially within society publications, and emerging researchers seeking to bring fresh perspectives to scientific publishing arena. Our goal is for the Publications Committee to represent the diversity within the IUBMB global community, and especially encourage applications from women and researchers working in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Appointments will be for three years in the first instance, commencing July 1, 2025. Meetings will be held quarterly in a virtual format for 1-2 hours.

Applications should include the following

  1. A full CV, including details of peer review and/or editorial roles and the applicant’s publication record
  2. A cover letter outlining your suitability as a Publications Committee member and your motivation for taking up the role

Please send any queries relating to this appointment and applications, in confidence, to: Prof. James Murphy (jamesm@wehi.edu.au), Chair of the IUBMB Publications Committee. Application deadline May 31, 2025.

IUBMB upholds the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion. We especially encourage applications from women and researchers working in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
