The following researchers/laboratories are open to host a PROBio-Africa fellow. Note that fellows can also choose to go to laboratories not listed on this page.
If you are a researcher interested in becoming a host, please use the following form:

Name: McStay, Gavin
Name: McStay, Gavin (He / Him)
Research Area(s): Bioenergetics, Cell Biology, Membrane Biology, Metabolism, Molecular Bases of Disease, Protein Synthesis and Degradation, Signal Transduction
Affiliation: Liverpool John Moores University
Country: United Kingdom
Scientific Interests:
Our laboratory is interested in mitochondria and the roles they play in health and disease. Mitochondria have a traditional role in energy production and metabolism, but these roles have been expanded to include cell death, immune responses and signal transduction. Dysregulation of these functions can lead to many diseases. This is further complicated by the dual origin of mitochondria. We aim to understand the co-ordination of mitochondrial biogenesis with their critical cellular functions. We use eukaryotic cell models ranging from yeast to cell lines to analyse mitochondrial and cell function using genetic, biochemical, molecular and cellular assays.
This offer applies to trainees/researchers eligible for the following fellowships
