Scientific Interests:

Understanding the structure-function relationships of pore-forming proteins and exploiting their unique properties for biotechnological applications. A major part of our work is devoted to actinoporins, toxins from sea anemones that undergo remarkable structural rearrangements to assemble into transmembrane pores. This research combines biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches to investigate protein-lipid interactions, membrane recognition, oligomerization and pore formation at the molecular level. Building on this fundamental knowledge, we are particularly interested in protein engineering and the redesign of naturally toxic proteins into useful biological nanomachines. Our current research explores engineered protein nanopores and nanoreactors with new catalytic activities, including systems designed for the degradation of micro- and nanoplastics and other environmental contaminants.

This offer applies to trainees/researchers eligible for the following fellowships
