Name: Aschenbrenner, Jasmin
Name: Aschenbrenner, Jasmin (She / Her)
Research Area(s): Structural Biology and Fragment Based Drug Discovery
Affiliation: Diamond Light Source
Country: United Kingdom
Scientific Interests:
Fragment-based screening is now well-established as a powerful approach to early drug (“lead”) discovery. Of the many suitable biophysical techniques, X-ray crystallography was one of the first to be used, and is the most directly informative; however, the experimental overheads have historically been too high for it to be widely used for primary screening.
At Diamond in Lab34 and beamline I04-1, the full X-ray screening experiment has now been implemented as a highly streamlined process, allowing up to 1000 compounds to be screened individually in less than a week (including 36 hours of unattended beamtime). The process covers soaking, harvesting, automatic data collection, and data analysis; we have fragment libraries available, though you can also bring your own. Additionally, we offer the option to progress initial fragment hits using computational methods and CAR (chemist-assisted robotics) to credible potency rapidly and cheaply.
Our in-house research currently focuses on the development of antivirals, but our platform can be used for a wide range of biological target.
This offer applies to trainees/researchers eligible for the following fellowships
