Inaugural IUBMB Whelan Young Investigator Award

Elyse Fischer Whelan Award

We are also delighted to announce that the inaugural award will be presented to Élyse Fischer, a Gates Cambridge PhD Scholar in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge, in the laboratory of Professor David Barford. Her research is directed towards understanding the molecular mechanisms of spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) activation using a variety of structural and biochemical techniques. Elyse also happens to be the grand daughter of Bill Whelan’s lifelong friend, biochemist Edmond Fischer, who received the Nobel Prize for reversible phosphorylation.

Elyse will be presenting her research at the IUBMB Whelan Young Investigator talk at the Young Scientists Program in Vimeiro, Portugal, 6th to 9th July 2022 directly preceding the 25th IUBMB Congress/FEBS/PAPMB meeting in Lisbon, July 9th-14th, 2022.
