We are delighted to invite you to the IUBMB Focused Meeting on “Synthetic Biology”, hosted at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, India, from 15–17 February 2027.

NCBS is a premier research institution dedicated to the study of biology at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level, and is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Located on a green, interconnected campus in northern Bangalore, it provides an ideal setting for an intensive, collegial scientific meeting.

We aim to bring together researchers from academia and industry working across different domains of synthetic biology to foster exchange of ideas. The themes are organised around a deliberate progression from foundational science through to real-world application: tools for synthetic biology provide the molecular and computational foundation; these tools are then applied to engineer synthetic cells and organisms; the programme moves up in complexity to synthetic microbiomes and communities, where the principles governing multi-organism systems come into focus; and the meeting concludes with the translational endpoints of biomanufacturing and bioremediation. We have an excellent line-up of confirmed speakers, and a number of presentation slots will be selected from submitted abstracts.

Bengaluru is a dynamic, cosmopolitan city in Southern India, with a pleasant springtime climate in February and wonderful food. It is a vibrant hub of startups, innovation, and cultural diversity, blending a modern urban energy with deep traditional roots.
