I am a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. My lab investigates the role of inflammation in infectious diseases and cancer. Pattern-recognition receptors are germ-line encoded innate immune sensors which detect pathogens and danger signals. These receptors activate signalling pathways and mediate the production of inflammatory cytokines, type I interferons and other anti-microbial molecules. Our lab uses cutting-edge technology to study the mechanisms by which host sensors recognise bacteria, viruses and parasites, and how these sensors shape the overall immune response to infection (Cell 2016, Nature Immunology 2015, Nature Microbiology 2019, Nature Communications 2020, Nature Communications 2022, Science Immunology 2022, PNAS, 2014a, PNAS 2014b). We also study the molecular basis by which uncontrolled inflammation can lead to the development of cancer, autoimmunity and inflammatory diseases (Cell 2015, Nature 2016).
