Our group is ocused on Redox Vascular Biology. More specifically, our aim is to understand how integrated redox processes affect vascular cell phenotype in physiological and pathological conditions. The main and quite original focus is on endoplasmic reticulum redox chaperones, mainly from the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family and their redox implications.  We search to investigate a cross-talk between the endoplasmic reticulum and the extracellular milieu affecting intercellular redox communication. We investigate PDI nteractors such as Nox NADPH oxidases, RhoGTPases and other proteins; PDI subcellular translocation routes; roles of PDIs in cell phenotype, cell migration and shape changes. Our studies address cellular models, in vitro biochemical experiments and, in particular, animal models of disease (in particular, aortic diseases and atherosclerosis). Typically, we always search for physiological readouts of biochemical or cell biology events. We have published nearly 200 articles and supervised over 55 PhD or post-doctoral students in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. Funding is available through our regional FAPESP agency or federal sources.
