Dimkic, Ivica
Researcher Name: Dimkic, Ivica
Research Area(s): Microbiology
Affiliation: University of Belgrade – Faculty of Biology
Country: Serbia
Scientific Interests:
Dr. Ivica Dimkić as a PI in the Microbial Biotechnology group at the Faculty of Biology has significant experience in microbial isolation and identification, as well as an excellent knowledge of microbial diversity in different habitats, including plant-pathogen interactions. Also, he is a proven scientist in the field of applied microbiology and biocontrol strategies, including knowledge of state-of-the-art sequencing techniques of microbiomes and whole genomes. His team has pivotal research in Serbia using beneficial bacteria, especially in biological control against many phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi. Additionally, PI has complementary expertise in the biotechnological background and collaboration with industrial partners. As a projects leader within different tasks, PI participated in international, bilateral, and national projects, including the leadership of several research and development sector projects for the companies and other institutions’ needs, and a founder of the startup company BioCombact doo (https://combact.rs/).
This offer applies to trainees/researchers eligible for the following fellowships
IUBMB Early-Career Research Fellowships
Other relevant information:
The FBUB PI team will ensure the implementation of the bacteriological and mycological experiments, the analysis of the soil microbiome community and the initiation of work on the development of formulations for soil improvers. They have extensive experience in the isolation and identification of microorganisms and excellent knowledge of microbial diversity in different habitats, including interactions between plants and pathogens. In addition, the team has proven scientists in the field of applied microbiology and biocontrol strategies, including knowledge of state-of-the-art sequencing techniques of microbiomes and whole genomes. Our team has conducted crucial research with beneficial bacteria in Serbia. In addition, they have complementary expertise to the biotechnological background and collaborate with many industrial partners. Furthermore, they have great skills and experience in the field of taxonomic, biochemical, morphological, anatomical, phytochemical and molecular research on microorganisms and plants, as well as bioactive compounds. Also, they have tested and demonstrated very good antifungal activities, especially for specialized bacterial metabolites, against many phytopathogenic fungi of various plant origins worldwide, which are responsible for yield losses in the food produced.
