The following researchers/laboratories are open to host an IUBMB research fellowship holder. Note that fellows can also choose to go to laboratories not listed on this page.
If you are a researcher interested in becoming a host, please use the following form:

Scientific Interests:
The second messenger c-di-GMP is present in most bacteria, regulating various phenotypes, among which polysaccharide synthesis, biofilm formation and mobility stand out. It has also been shown that the level of c-di-GMP determines the virulent capacity of the bacteria. This molecule is synthesized intracellularly by diguanylate cyclases (DGC) and degraded by specific phosphodiesterases (PDE). In this way, in response to different stimuli, the bacteria regulates the concentrations of c-di-GMP. The interesting aspect of regulation by c-di-GMP is that it occurs at different levels. On the one hand, it regulates the function of response regulators by stimulating or inhibiting the expression of particular genes by binding to proteins and inducing a change in their conformation. This change results in a rapid change in the activity of this protein and therefore in the phenotype of the bacteria. Within the framework of the pathogenesis of Bordetella, c-di-GMP presents an interesting aspect since it could regulate changes in phenotypes in moments where adaptation is required in short periods of time, such as the contagion process, where the bacteria goes from one abiotic environment such as air towards the mucosa of the new host.
