Addmore Shonhai is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Venda in South Africa. He was head of the Biochemistry Department at the University of Venda for 10 years. He is a holder of PhD in Biochemistry awarded by Rhodes University, South Africa. His area of research involves understanding the role of heat shock proteins in the development malaria parasites. Another area of interest involves using heat shock proteins as biotechnological tools to enhance recombinant protein production in E. coli. He is also interested in the prospects of using synthetic gold nanoparticles as artificial molecular chaperones. Prof. Shonhai is a previous council member of the South African Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (SASBMB). To date, he has received research funding to the tune of at least USD 1 million from various organizations such as the Germany Research Foundation (DFG), Grant Challenges and the NRF of South Africa. He is a recipient of a prestigious Georg Foster Fellowship awarded to him by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany. He is current chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2024 South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SABMB) Congress to be held in July 2024.
