Edkins, Adrienne
Researcher Name: Edkins, Adrienne
Research Area(s): Cell Biology, Molecular Bases of Disease, Protein Structure and Folding, Protein Synthesis and Degradation
Affiliation: Rhodes University
Country: South Africa
Scientific Interests:
Our group is interested in protein biochemistry and homeostasis. We study how cells use molecular chaperones to achieve and maintain the structures of their proteome during physiological and pathological processes. We use a range of cutting-edge molecular and cellular biology approaches in cell lines models coupled with in vitro biophysical and protein biochemistry techniques. Current projects in the lab aim to understand molecular chaperone function in viral-associated cancers and in bacterial drug resistance (e.g. TB).
This offer applies to trainees/researchers eligible for the following fellowships
Everyone (not restricted to fellowship holders)
Other relevant information:
We are based in a small university town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa and the outdoors including beaches and mountains are in close proximity. Rhodes University is the smallest university in South Africa and we have an excellent staff-to-student ratio where trainees will receive individual support and training. Our research group is dynamic and composed of between 10 -20 researchers at different phases of their training. We are well equipped, well funded and have a strong network of collaborators that support our research progress.
