Understanding Cancer Metabolism: Exploring Tumor Heterogeneity to Advance Cancer Therapy

 
The Tumor Biochemistry Group of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB) is glad to announce the third meeting of the group: “Understanding cancer metabolism: exploring tumor heterogeneity to advance cancer therapy”

The conference will be held on 29–30 June 2023 at University “Magna Græcia” of Catanzaro. The meeting gathers top experts in the fields of cancer metabolism, immunometabolism and metabolomics to dissect biochemical mechanisms underlying molecular features of cancer metabolism. Cellular metabolism represent a fundamental process in biology. During cancerogenesis, cells, in the tumor microenvironment, undergo dramatic metabolic reprogramming, while acquire the abilities to proliferate and survive under prohibitive conditions. Cancer is a dynamic disease. As consequence, tumor landscape results in heterogeneous cells subsets exhibiting peculiar molecular signatures including those involving metabolism. Overall, tumor cell subpopulations might unveil, in their architecture, a high spatial and temporal heterogeneity. In this context exploring metabolic features within tumor heterogeneity might help to understand nature and relative role of the different cell subsets and identify novel therapeutic targets aiming to improve cancer therapy. We expect that participants could share novel ideas, novel data, discoveries and future perspective by oral and poster presentations, emphasizing challenges facing metabolic rewiring of cancer cells in the perspective of their peculiar heterogeneity.
