On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 30th Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) Conference, to be held at the Centara Grand Hotel, Central Plaza Ladprao, in Bangkok, during 22-25 November 2023. Hosted by BMB Thailand together with the Departments of Biochemistry of Faculty of Science of three major universities, namely, Chulalongkorn, Kasetsart and Mahidol University, the Conference’s theme is “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the New Normal Era”.

We proudly present the 30th FAOBMB Conference in conjunction with the 8th BMB Conference, as a special event in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of BMB Thailand. Organized fully onsite after the long break of COVID-19 pandemic, the three and a half day conference will offer a series of plenary and invited lectures, symposia, workshop, posters and oral presentations, including exhibition and technical talks. This will provide an excellent platform for scientists, researchers, educators, and entrepreneurs to share experiences, to promote creative discussion, as well as to build and strengthen their networks.

Renowned scientists invited to give stimulating lectures include Sir Gregory Winter – the 2018 Nobel Laureate, Prof. Merlin Crossley, Prof. George Fu Gao, Prof. Yukiko Gotoh, Prof. David Craik, and Prof. Pimchai Chaiyen – to mention but a few. Winners of FAOBMB Research and Entrepreneur Awards, and BMB Thailand Award will also present their award-winning achievements.

In addition, an IUBMB-FAOBMB Education Symposium in the theme of “Lifelong Learning for the Changing World in Biochemistry” will be held during the Conference. This will cover a plenary lecture from Prof. Uri Alon, a symposium and a workshop.

Fellowships to attend the conference are available, such as the FAOBMB Travel Fellowships, FAOBMB Education Travel Fellowships for members of the FAOBMB Constituent Societies, as well as BMB Thailand Fellowships.

Recognizing the important roles of the younger generation, a special Young Biochemists and Molecular Biologists Program will be organized as a pre-conference activity. This exciting 3-day program held at Mahidol University will provide a venue for young scientists to expand their perspectives through the inspiring talks given by renowned scientists (including Nobel laureate, Sir Gregory Winter), and for developing international networks for their future career. Graduate students, researchers or academic staffs (within 5 years of completion of their M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree) can apply for this activity at no extra cost; however, the successful applicants must register and submit abstract/proceedings at the 30th FAOBMB / 8th BMB conference.

Finally, Bangkok has many exciting sights and activities to enjoy. It offers an incredible experience where cultural tradition meets modern life, such as world-class food, stunning historical landmarks, and friendly hospitality.

LET US REUNITE! The COVID-19 pandemic has kept us apart for too long. Please mark your calendar now and plan your trip to join us in Bangkok in November 2023.

Assoc. Prof. Tuangporn Suthiphongchai, PhD
