The 45th FEBS Congress – Molecules of Life: Towards New Horizons
July 3, 2021 to July 8, 2021
The 45th FEBS Congress is going virtual
Experience the scientific program and interaction in a new way!
When we last posted an update in late 2020 on arrangements for the 45th FEBS Congress, already postponed from July 2020, we were hopeful that COVID vaccines would allow some return to normality by the middle of 2021 – but at the same time we informed you that we were also exploring virtual options to ensure the event could go ahead in a different way if needed. We announce now that the 45th FEBS Congress will indeed be converting to a virtual format.
With further waves of coronavirus transmission in Europe and elsewhere, the rise of new variants, travel restrictions, the somewhat limited roll out of vaccinations so far, and many uncertainties, it is not possible to proceed with holding the international 45th FEBS Congress as a physical event in early July in Slovenia.
But coronavirus should not stop again the opportunities that a FEBS Congress provides for scientists to learn from and be inspired by experts, to see the big picture across the molecular life sciences and celebrate achievements, to present our findings and find others interested in the same questions. This is a time when molecular bioscience has helped provide solutions to a global problem, and it is also a time when researchers and educators may need extra support and encouragement from coming together as a community. We are therefore pleased to be able to offer the FEBS Congress this year in a new, reimagined format to suit this extraordinary period.
We will be doing our best to ensure that the virtual event will keep attractive features of previous FEBS Congresses, including excellent scientific presentations and discussions, poster sessions and interesting special sessions and workshops. Most of our speakers have already confirmed their commitment to participate in the virtual event. We plan to organize the virtual Congress with the same schedule as for the physical event, with availability for delegates from other time zones and for the first time to allow you to hear talks from any or all of the five parallel sessions of a FEBS Congress. You can find some brief FAQs about the plans in our new virtual platform section of the Congress website here, including financial support from FEBS in response to the virtual conversion to help with registration fees.
We have spent time investigating virtual event options to find a professional virtual platform that is a good fit with the aims of format of a FEBS Congress. We are excited to deliver the event to you in this new way, and hope you also will enjoy contributing to this history-making 45th FEBS Congress!
