Terms of Reference of the Subcommittee on Non-Enzyme Protein Nomenclature

The determination of the genomic sequences of human and many model organisms has revealed the amino acid sequences of a tremendous number of potential new proteins. The nomenclature of non-enzyme proteins currently has no official standardization, and many proteins have multiple designations, resulting in confusion.
