Welcome to IUBMB
The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - founded in 1955 - unites biochemists and molecular biologists in 79 countries that belong to the Union as an Adhering Body or Associate Adhering Body represented by a biochemical society, a national research council or an academy of sciences. The Union is devoted to promoting research and education in biochemistry and molecular biology throughout the world and gives particular attention to areas where the subject is still in its early development. It achieves this in several ways.
IUBMB Mission Statement
IUBMB seeks to advance the international molecular life sciences community by:
- Promoting interactions across the diversity of endeavors in the molecular life sciences
- Creating networks that transcend barriers of ethnicity, culture, gender and economic status
- Creating pathways for young scientists to fulfill their potential
- Providing evidence-based advice on public policy
- Promoting the values, standards, and ethics of science and the free and unhampered movement of scientists of all nations.
NEW: IUBMB TANG EDUCATION FELLOWSHIPS
Provides opportunities for the development of both biochemistry and molecular biology educational programs and educators. Guidelines and Application Forms are available on this website.
NOTICE: Applicants to the Tang Education Fellowships should contact Janet Macaulay at firstname.lastname@example.org for an update on their applications.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have extended the applications for the IUBMB Research Fellowships (Mid-Career, Wood-Whelan) and Tang Education Fellowships to 1st October 2020 which is now for travel in 2021. Please contact Professor Janet Macaulay (Chair of the IUBMB Committee for Education and Training) for any further information.
IUBMB FOCUS MEETINGS
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rescheduling of 2020 meetings, the IUBMB Focus Meeting application for 2021 will not be available this year.
This conference will bring together the Biochemists and Molecular Biologists as well as researchers of related disciplines from Asia and Oceania to a single platform where knowledge would be exchanged on how best the potential scientific research needs of the region could be addressed.
Deadline for Registration
30th March 2020
The 45th FEBS Congress - Molecules of Life: Towards New Horizons
It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 45th FEBS Congress, entitled ”Molecules of Life: Towards New Horizons“, which will be held from July 3rd to July 8th, 2021, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, hosted by the Slovenian Biochemical Society together with the Croatian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Early Registration Deadline
4th March 2021
The 16th FAOBMB Congress will be hosted by five life science societies from New Zealand and Australia.
Reflecting the breadth and depth of the five partner societies, indicative session topics include: computational biology; gene regulation and signal transduction; genetics and genomics; molecular basis of disease; molecular evolution; molecular microbiology; plant biology and biochemistry; and proteins – structure, function and engineering.
Early Bird Registration Deadline: 27th August 2021
In 2017, IUBMB Conferences and Symposia were replaced by IUBMB Focused Meetings. Up to three Focused Meetings will be supported per year in the amount of US$ 30,000-60,000. The deadline for applications to host an IUBMB Focused Meeting is June 1st for Focused Meetings to be held during the subsequent calendar year. Guidelines and Application and Report Forms are available on this website. Further information can be obtained from the Chair of the Committee on Congresses and Focused Meetings, Prof. Ilona Concha Grabinger: email@example.com. Please note that triennial IUBMB Congresses will continue unchanged.

Announcement of a new enzyme class
The IUBMB Nomenclature Committee has added a new class of enzymes to the Enzyme classification and nomenclature list that was first approved by the International Union of Biochemistry in 1961, Translocases (EC 7). This represents an important update that will impact textbooks of enzymology and basic biochemistry.
